THE senior national women football team, the Mighty Warriors, have been further crippled in the striking department ahead of their trip to South America this weekend after striker Rufaro Machingura failed to report for camp.

REPORT BY SPORTS REPORTER Mighty Warriors team manager Charity Munemo confirmed that the gangly striker, arguably one of the best strikers in the team, is yet to join the rest of the squad and the technical team have decided to drop her from the travelling crew.

“We have been sending requests to her so that she can come for camp, but it seems she has personal problems. The technical team will have to work with the players available,” said Munemo

The Rosemary Mugadza-coached team were invited to Uruguay where they will take part in the South American Cup against the hosts Chile, Paraguay and women football heavyweights Brazil. They are expected to leave the country on Saturday morning.

Zimbabwe is using the tournament to prepare for the African Women Championships and Olympic qualifiers expected to start later this year.

But the Mighty Warriors’ preparations for the trip have not been smooth- sailing as striker Rudo Neshamba is already out after she excused herself while defender Nobuhle Majika has problems with her travelling documents.

The unavailability of Machingura will leave Mugadza with limited options upfront as Rutendo Makore, Erina Jeke and Kudakwashe Bhasopo are the only recognisable strikers in camp.

Machingura, the top goal scorer in the 2011 Cosafa Women Championships, has been in and out of the team in recent times due to disciplinary problems.

She missed the trip to Egypt for the Arab Invitational Cup, the Unity Cup match against South Africa and the African Women Championships qualifier match against Botswana last year after she failed to report for camp.
