Kunaka, who is the shadow councillor for Mbare and aspiring MP for Kuwadzana constituency, is said to have beaten up Gift Jembe, a municipal police officer.

According to officials who heard his case, Kunaka paid an admission of guilty fine which was used against him in the hearings.

“He is refusing to take the letter insisting he is still an employee of the city council, but he was fired for beating up Gift Jembe, a municipal police officer. He was arraigned before a disciplinary committee, but he did not attend the hearings. The disciplinary committee made a decision in his absence,” said a source who was part of the disciplinary hearings.

Onias Rusike initially prosecuted before he was allegedly threatened by Mbare youths and gave way to Gift Jumbura. The matter was initially set for council offices in Mbare, but was later changed to Rowan Martin for fear of a political backlash.

Kunaka, the firebrand Zanu PF youth leader, is known for leading a series of demonstrations against the MDC-T-dominated council last year accusing them of not doing enough for residents in Harare.
