Tongai Shava of Red Mile Farm, Banket, was sentenced to an effective 10 months in prison for the crime when he appeared before magistrate Ngoni Nduna.

The court heard that complainant Muzondiwa Zhanero (46) of Shankuru Estates went to Red Mile Farm to visit his lover 25-year-old Idah Zulu.

While the two lovebirds were relaxing, accused stormed the room and ordered Zhanero to leave, saying the woman was his wife. However, Zulu told him that their affair was over and therefore he had no business at her house and ordered him to leave.

This incensed Shava. He left the premises, but waited for Zhanero along the way. As Zhanero went past, accused struck him on the head using an axe, inflicting a deep cut.

The next day at around 8pm, accused returned and confronted Zulu over the sharing of household property they had bought together. Zulu surrendered all property, but accused went on to demand for her cellphone, leading to an altercation.

Accused beat her all over her body using open hands and booted feet. A report was made to the police, leading to Shava’s arrest. Authur Bosha prosecuted.
