Report by Pamela Mhlanga

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Sergeant Nkosilathi Sibanda yesterday confirmed the incident that occurred on Sunday at about 3pm. He identified the deceased as Dingani Ncube of Busani Tshuma’s homestead at Ncema village.

Sibanda said another villager Liberty Moyo found Dingani struggling to swim. Moyo ran from the scene to alert Dingani’s brother Mthandazo Ncube (30) after failing to rescue him. Mthandazo also failed to rescue his brother.

Sibanda said the matter was reported to police in Esigodini who attended the scene, but they also failed to rescue the boy, whose body was later retrieved by the sub-aqua section.
