The team has five girls and three boys with Nicole Dzenga — who was crowned the Under-16 champion in the girls’ category in the recently-held African Junior Championships held in Nairobi, Kenya — part of the team, as well as Alwyn Mushonga who also participated in the same competition.

Dzenga is joined by Valeria Bhunu, Thabile Tshatedi, Natafa Yasini as well as Zarha Finnigan.

In the boys’ category, Courtney Lock, Rondzai Saurombe will join Mushonga.

The eight players will be under the supervision of former tennis great Martin Dzuwa who will be the only technical representative that will accompany the players to South Africa.

TZ administrator Cliff Nhokwara yesterday told NewsDay Sport that the team is set to leave for South Africa on February 13. “The players will be leaving the country on February 13 for the games with Martin Dzuwa.

“The players are currently training on their own as they prepare for the competition,” Nhokwara said.

The tournament will cater for the boys and girls’ Under-18 age group only with 48 participants expected to battle it out in the singles category and 38 in the doubles.

TZ will also be sending seven players to participate in the finals of the African Junior Championships (AJC) which will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, in April this year after the players qualified at the end of the Southern African Junior Championships held in Windhoek, Namibia.

Dzenga and Mushonga will also be part of seven players that will be going to the AJC competition in Kenya.
