Don’t take God to court

Opinion & Analysis
On one hand you are probably enjoying the fruits of answered prayers and on the other, you are waiting for answers to prayers.

Sermon of the week with Pastor Erasmus Makarimayi

Some of the issues are long-term or even lifelong. For these pending issues, people have questions directed at God. Because of the long wait, some people are now bitter and angry with God.

There are mysteries both in heaven and earth which can only be demystified through revelation from God which we get by studying the Bible and praying. There are Christians that think God is unfair and unjust and want to take Him to court.

We come into the world differently and with different physical and natural possessions and attributes. Some are born prematurely, lame, deaf, blind or other deformities.

Others are born into rich families and already own houses and cars before they come out of the womb, whereas others never own these even if they live up to be centenarians.

Some have to pray, fast and sow to pass exams, get a job, car, house even getting married and give birth. However, there are those that don’t go for all-night prayers as you do, or go to the prayer mountain as you do, but seem to prosper more than you.

You have been faithful with your tithes and offerings and there seems to be nothing to show for it. Yet still there are those you think are wicked and are seemingly doing well in life.

If you are facing inexplicable circumstances in your life, seek divine revelation. God is merciful and faithful to let you understand. It may take a short time or a long time, but never give up. Apostle Paul had an issue which God did not take away according to Paul’s request, but gave him grace.

The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 12:8-9:  “For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” Sometimes all you need to know is what God is saying about your situation before you throw railing accusations at Him.

I don’t know where you are coming from. All I know is that you can do something about it. Voltaire notes: “Each player must accept the cards life deals him or her: but once they are in hand, he or she alone must decide how to play the cards in order to win the game.” No matter how disadvantaged you feel, seek God’s revelation.

Don’t accuse God and wage war with Him. Remember Romans 8:28 which reads: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Don’t take God to court, but seek understanding.

While I was working on this piece I remembered a report in July 2007 by Ria Novosti in which a murderer was suing God for misfortune. I reproduce the report for your valuation of your attitude to God. It read: “A Romanian court has rejected a lawsuit against God filed by a local prisoner serving a 20-year term for murder.

Evenimentul Zilel said Mircea Pavel’s suit was against ‘defendant God, resident in Heaven, represented here by the Romanian Orthodox Church’.”

In late 2005, it was reported that the convict, serving his term in the western Romanian city of Timisoara, blamed God for troubles in his life and wanted God brought to account for failing to fulfil the commitments He undertook and for taking bribes.

The plaintiff said that when he had been baptised in childhood, he concluded a contract with God that had legal effect — God was supposed to protect him from evil and insisted that the Romanian church should compensate him for the alleged God-inflicted damage.

“God received different material valuables from me, as well as prayers in exchange for promises of a better life. In reality, this did not happen — I found myself in the devil’s hands,” the plaintiff said. The court rejected the prisoner’s claims on the grounds that “God is not an object of law and has no residential address”.

I don’t how deep your issue is, but God knows and has the correct explanation. Ask Him and He is faithful to reveal the hidden things.

Job had issues, but after God spoke to him, he understood the need to be quiet and seek God’s answer. Job 40:3-5 records, “Then Job answered the Lord, and said, Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.

Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.” Stop complaining, seek God’s explanation. You are going somewhere.
