The police officers, who are reportedly detained at the Hillside Police Station, Bulawayo, allegedly stole a laptop, a plasma television screen and some clothes.

According to sources, the police officers were deployed to guard the late VP’s home, but allegedly stole the property after his burial.

“A plasma television screen, a laptop and (some) clothes from three suitcases were stolen from the VP’s residence while the two were on guard. It is suspected that they stole the property, leading to their arrest on Friday,” said a source.

“Presently, the pair is being detained at the Hillside Police Station.”

The sources said the pair stayedat the VP’s residence for 15 days, during which they are suspected to have committed the offence. Nkomo died last month after a long battle with cancer.

When contacted for comment, the late VP’s son Jabulani Nkomo declined to comment saying: “I cannot comment because investigations are still underway.

“Maybe (I will do so) sometime later.”

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo declined to comment on the matter, referring questions to the PPU. National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba yesterday said she was yet to receive details on the matter. “I am not aware (of that). I did not get any information on the matter.

“I will look for the information tomorrow,” she said. The two are, however, expected to appear in court today.
