The Chiredzi-based side is reportedly leaving no stone unturned in their bid to gain promotion into the country’s top-flight football league this season after near misses in the past few years. Last season they came second to neighbours Triangle.

In 2011 they were piped from the top spot by the Mutare-based army side Buffaloes.

A close source in the club’s executive confided to NewsDay Sport yesterday that the legendary Chunga was in the Lowveld last weekend for interviews.

“Just like any coach, Chunga was here on Friday for interviews perhaps to become the club’s technical adviser, but we are still to finalise, although l can also indicate that Taku Shariwa is still with club.” There was reportedly a fall-out within the Hippo Valley executive members over the dismissal of Taku Shariwa as the club’s head coach early this year and the gaffer has since been recalled. Another source said the move to bring Chunga to the club will help to equip Shariwa with the much needed experience.

“When Taku was fired, other members were not happy, and a meeting was held to deliberate over the issue and he is now back. Chunga is tipped to become the technical adviser while Taku will remain head coach. The move is set to help Shariwa to gain more experience,” he said.

Chunga, who was also earlier linked with a move to Premiership side Caps United, was not reachable on his mobile.
