Chigubu’s performance came as part of the Plays on Sunday show organised by Amakhosi. His show was dubbed Clive Chigubu Presents.

Chigubu’s role on Sunday was to present the upcoming comedians to the audience, but he stole the show with his jokes that touch on social issues.

The comedian told NewsDay soon after the show that he was planning to have the event every month.

“We need to give space to upcoming comedians. In Bulawayo there is only me and Ntandoyenkosi Moyo. In Harare, they have 10 comedians. We want to give a platform to upcoming comedians to showcase their talent here at Amakhosi. We are thankful to Cont Mhlanga for allowing us to stage the show here,” he said.

Three upcoming comedians that performed at the show were Zwelithini Makena, Marshall “The General” Mpofu and Keith “The Jukebox” Nkosi.

Although the upcoming comedians exhibited signs of stage fright, they gave a good account of themselves with very short but hillarious jokes.

After their performance, the audience was given a chance to comment and give advice.

A great majority of the audience were artistes in their own right.

Mpofu said he had learnt a lot from advice given to him by the audience and would improve on his jokes that touch on the lives of Zimbabweans who migrate to South Africa and come back with a different attitude.
