The unseeded pair lost in a very tight contest in a tie breaker against the seventh-seeded pair of Andrea Hlavackova and Luci Safarova from the Czech Republic. aHlavackova and Safarova won the opening set 6-3, before Black and Rodionova tied the match after winning the second set 3-6 resulting in a tie breaker which they eventually lost 10-5 to bow out of the tournament.

Black and Rodionova went into the tournament in search of their second Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) victory of the season after winning the ASB Classic in Auckland in January.
