THE Zimbabwe Netball Association (ZNA) Super League pre-season tournament which was set for Harare at the weekend has been moved to March 9 and 10. The sponsors requested that more teams be included in the tournament.

ZNA fixtures secretary Agnes Chiroodza yesterday told NewsDay Sport that the tournament had been postponed to early next month.

“The pre-season tournament has been postponed to next month because the sponsors indicated that they wanted more teams to take part. All the 20 Super League teams are expected to take part and will be joined by two teams from each of the provinces in the country,” she said.

30 teams will battle it out in the tournament. ZNA got a boost as they secured a sponsorship deal worth $5 000 and sporting equipment from Ecumenical Church Leaders’ Forum.

The theme of the tournament will be Peace Building Through Sport.

Participating teams are expected to receive warm-up T-shirts from the sponsors, while teams that will proceed to the semi-finals will get kits and prize money.

Nehanda Nyakasikana beat Zimbabwe Defence Forces Queens by 26-23 to win last year’s pre-season tournament.

Nehanda then went on to claim the title from Bulawayo side Railstars in the Super League last year.

The pre-season tournament is a traditional competition which most teams use to prepare for the season.

Newly-promoted Super League teams which include Khami, Chinhoyi University of Technology and Zimpost, are likelyto use the tournament to have a feel of the level and type of competition to expect in the league.
