Black, who will celebrate her 34th birthday next Sunday, will partner Australian female player Anastasia Rodionova in the women’s doubles competition.

The Qatar Total Open will be the two’s first appearance in a high profile tournament since last month’s Australian Open where they bowed out in the third round.

While Rodionova is expected to also play in the women’s singles in the tournament, Black will have her focus solely on the doubles.

According to the women’s doubles draw released by the Qatar Tennis Federation yesterday, the unseeded pair of Black and Rodionova will open their account with a fairly easy first round match against wild card entries Fatma Al-Nabhani from Oman and Germany’s Kathrin Woerle.

Black is making a comeback in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tour this year after spending more than a year out due to pregnancy.

She gave birth to her first child — a boy Lachlan — in April last year and briefly returned to the courts in October where she competed in two ITF $25 000 events in Australia with Arina Rodionova.

Early last month, the Harare-born tennis star completed a fairytale comeback by winning the ASB Classic WTA Tour doubles title with Rodionova in New Zealand.

Black is undoubtedly one of Zimbabwe’s most decorated female athletes of all time with a total of 10 Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles and mixed doubles combined, including one WTA Tour singles title.

In total, Black has won 54 women’s doubles titles. ZIMBABWEAN tennis ace Cara Black will continue her comeback in women’s professional tennis this week when she takes part in the 2013 Qatar Total Open which got underway in Doha yesterday.
