HIGHLANDERS coach Kelvin Kaindu says going into a cup tournament straight from the season break will render Sunday’s Bob89 Super Cup first leg encounter a tricky tie for his charges as they have not had ample time to prepare.

Bosso take on bitter rivals Dynamos in the first leg of the Bob Super Cup on Sunday at Barbourfields Stadium before the second leg that will be played in a fortnight and the Highlanders mentor feels ill-prepared for the pre-season tournament.

“It becomes a bit tricky. You know, you need a minimum of six weeks of preparations when you are coming from a break and we are just going into our fourth week. Of course we have played an international friendly match against (Mamelodi) Sundowns, but that is not enough.

“But we are playing Dynamos and I don’t think the boys will be under any pressure because they know what they want,” Kaindu said.

Highlanders lost 2-0 to the Brazilians last Wednesday after Kaindu had gone for three weeks of preparations for the 2013 Castle Premiership without any assistants as the club waited for executive elections held on Sunday before making any technical appointments.

His lieutenants, Bekithemba “Super” Ndlovu and goalkeepers’ coach Tembo Chuma, were only re-appointed to the bench on Tuesday, four days before the match against Dynamos.

Club legend Willard Mashinkila-Khumalo was appointed welfare manager, taking over from Amin Soma-Phiri. That alone, as negatively shown during the Sundowns’ match, could have a bearing on Sunday’s match as well.

“I am not going to comment on my technical team. I started training with them the day before yesterday (Tuesday),” Kaindu said. On his charges, Kaindu appears content with the team that took Bosso to position two in the 2013 Castle Lager Premiership and said it would be difficult to say if he would be using any new players for the Sunday match.

“It is difficult for me to say if we will be using any new players on Sunday. We have retained all our 30 players from last year’s squad,” Kaindu said.

Kaindu said two Zambians Edward Kalachi and Norman Munthali also started training with Highlanders this week, but the Zambian gaffer could not be drawn into saying he will sign them or not. “They are training with us. They have also trained with Chicken Inn,” Kaindu said.
