DYNAMOS continued their dominance over bitter rivals Highlanders, beating the Bulawayo football giants in the first leg of the Bob89 Super Cup final played in front of a close to capacity crowd at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday.

Bosso dominated the game, but failed to convert possession into goals and in the end what mattered was the result as DeMbare emerged victorious in a game in which all the three goals were scored inside five minutes.

Dynamos midfielder Tawanda Muparati drew first blood with a well-taken shot from outside the penalty area before new signing Patrick Khumbula doubled the lead two minutes later with a curler also from outside the penalty box.

Beaven Chikaka quickly reduced the arreas with a sleek header that eluded Dynamos goalkeeper George Chigova, benefiting from a Bruce Kangwa cross in the 35th minute, but the home side failed to build on that.

Dynamos head coach Kalisto Pasuwa said that he still had a lot of work to do ahead of the Caf Champions League preliminary round against Lesotho Correctional Services at Rufaro Stadium this weekend. “We still have a lot to do in terms of our defence. Boban (Zirintusa) could not match with the other guys up front. Maybe it was because it was his first game. But it is togetherness which will make us achieve what we want.

“We congested our midfield, tried to hit them on the counter-attack and what counts at the end of the day are the results,” said Pasuwa .

The Glamour Boys edged closer to the $100 000 winners’ prize money with this result and can afford a draw in the second leg in a fortnight to lift the cup.

Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu complained of officiating from the centre man Mlindeli Ndebele, but he said he was impressed with the way his boys played and was confident of turning the tables in Harare.

“Dynamos got their two chances and they scored, but we dominated the game. This is the first time that I am going to talk about the referee. Some of his decisions were not fair to us. I am confident that we can go and turn the tables in Harare,” Kaindu said.

While the Zambian gaffer has expressed the need for another striker, financial constraints have dealt his plans a blow, but he has promised to make the best out of the situation.
