IT’S BACK TO SCHOOL for Premier Soccer League (PSL) coaches and their assistants as they attend a high level coaching course to be conducted by top technical director of coaching, German Erich Rutemoeller, at Rufaro Stadium in Harare from tomorrow.

PSL chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele yesterday said all was set for the course which will run until Monday.
“The course is going to be attended by Premier League coaches and their assistants. National team coaches and women’s football coaches will also attend, bringing the number to 40 coaches,” he said.
“The elite course is a follow-up on last year’s course. It will also update coaches on football and increase their performances and their awareness on football matters.”
Ndebele said Rotemoller will be assisted by Warriors caretaker coach Klaus Dieter Pagels and Zifa technical director Nelson Matongorere.
“The idea is for PSL coaches to interact with the national team coach. This will also help in that the coaches will know what style of play the national teams coach wants. The course is also a platform where Premiership coaches can interact and exchange ideas because football is not necessarily about rivalries,” he said.
Ndebele said coaches will do an assessment of the final of the Bob 89 match between Dynamos and Highlanders on Sunday before the course is wrapped up on Monday.

The course is wholly funded by Nyaradzo Funeral Services and its managing director Webster Chikengezha said they were hoping to stage the course yearly as it will benefit football in the country.
“For the Zimbabwe national team to participate in competitions like Afcon, we need coaches who can impart knowledge to players. The national team coach is important, but the Premiership coaches are the most important because they work with players daily.
“If we have coaches who have the latest knowledge and information on football techniques, that can help our football. We want to continue this relationship with PSL because last year we learnt that there is a lot of potential in our local coaches. A good example is Nigeria — they have just won the Afcon with a local coach,” he said.
Chikengezha said they had poured in $50 000 which will go towards accommodation, transport and allowances for coaches.
Nyaradzo sponsored the initial programme run by Rutemoeller last year. Rutemoeller was assistant coach to the German national team for 10 years from 1994 to 2004 and served as an interim coach for the national team from 1996 to 1997.
He also coached Bundesliga side FC Köln.
From the list of coaches made available by the PSL yesterday, Caps United interim head coach Mkhuphali Masuku has been replaced by Brenna Msiska who will attend with Albert Mabika, while Shabanie Mine has only one representative, Arnold Jani.
