The tournament will cater for the boys and girls under-18 age group only with 48 participants expected to battle it out in the singles category and 38 in the doubles category.

Zimbabwe is expected to send a team of 10 players, with five players in each category.

The players that will be participating are selected based on their ITF ranking while those that do not have a ranking are chosen based on their ranking in the country.

Tennis Zimbabwe (TZ) administrator Cliff Nhokwara said that the players have been holding personal training in preparation for the games.

“Players have been preparing every day through personal training for the games. Currently, we have two of the players in each category with ITF ranking while the other three will be chosen on the basis of their ranking in the country,” Nhokwara said.

TZ will also be sending seven players to participate in the finals of the African Junior Championships (AJC) in Nairobi, Kenya in April this year.

Zimbabwe had five of their players seeded within the top seven in each category and these gained automatic qualification with two more players qualifying from the eighth position at the end of the Southern African Junior Championships held in Windhoek.

Mehluli Sibanda, Kimberly Bhunu , Julius Mtetwa, Keren Machisa, Karen Muswere and Alwyn Mushonga as well as the girls’ Under-16 champion Nicole Dzenga will all participating in the Under-14 and Under-16 age groups in Kenya.
