Zanu PF cracks widen over Nkomo

Zanu PF politburo member Eunice Sandi-Moyo yesterday lambasted fellow party bigwigs in Bulawayo for abusing the name of the late Vice-President John Nkomo to fight their own internal battles.

Report by Blondie Ndebele Own correspondent

Sandi-Moyo, who is Zanu PF national deputy secretary for the Women’s League, accused Matabeleland South governor Angeline Masuku and the party’s secretary for education Sikhanyiso Ndlovu of turning the purported visit to console the family of Nkomo into a platform to attack other party members who failed to attend the function.

“It is not fair to use Nkomo’s death as a stage to perform our frictional behaviour,” she said.

“If they (Masuku and Ndlovu) have issues, the politburo is there. Some people want us to appear as if we never loved Nkomo.”

This was after Masuku and Ndlovu blasted Indigenisation minister Saviour Kasukuwere and Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo for holding a campaign rally in the city while other party members were consoling Nkomo’s family.

Sandi-Moyo said “proper procedures” were not followed in arranging the visit to Nkomo’s family.

“The funeral was done and we had to continue with the party’s programmes,” she said. “Nkomo would have loved to see the programmes of the party continuing even after his departure.”

Sandi-Moyo said she was never invited for the party visit to Nkomo’s family.

“We do not know which office organised the other meeting. People should not abuse the powers given to them by the party against the party,” she said.

“If they had announced administratively, people would have gone there.

“We should work according to procedures of the party. Don’t drag the party into something that has nothing to do with the party.” Contacted for comment, Masuku said “I’m sorry. I’m busy,” before she switched off her mobile phone.

Meanwhile, Bulawayo provincial chairperson Killian Sibanda claimed yesterday that he had been cleared by Zanu PF national political commissar Webster Shamu to organise the campaign rally where Chombo and Kasukuwere were guest speakers. However, Shamu could not be reached to confirm the claim.
