CHINHOYI — Thousands of residents, mostly Zanu PF supporters, last week thronged Chinhoyi Stadium where businessman-cum-politician Phillip Chiyangwa donated more than 50 000 day-old chicks and piglets to residents in 13 wards. Report by Own Correspondent

People flocked to the stadium as early as 7am, but Chiyangwa only arrived shortly after midday.

Among the beneficiaries of Chiyangwa’s philanthropy were Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Kuyedza Club, a social grouping of spouses of serving police officers, Tariro Orphanage, Good Shepherd Orphanage, St Peter’s Catholic Church and Chengetanai Old People’s Home who also got bags of animal feed.

Addressing the crowd, Chiyangwa said: “These things are coming from me. If a councillor tells you they sourced these things on your behalf in order to get votes, tell them they are lying. Councillors are going to come with their own donations.

“So if one wants to run for councillorship or any other position, they ought to have a deep pocket.

“Vote for me and more resources for projects will continue to pour in.”

Chiyangwa promised to give a cow to each ward that registered in excess of 1 000 voters by close of next week.

The aspiring MP returnee has also pledged to provide free buses for crossborder traders to Zambia and other neighbouing countries.

Chiyangwa, who has openly declared his Zanu PF candidature for the next elections, said his party would romp to victory this time around and ensure President Robert Mugabe retained the presidency.

He said he would defeat any aspiring Zanu PF candidates in primaries before beating the opposition MDC-T representative.

Chiyangwa, a former MP for Chinhoyi, boasted he had never lost any election in his life.
