MASVINGO — An unscrupulous Masvingo woman’s bid to claim maintenance for her 15-month-old son from two men hit a brick wall yesterday after the plot was exposed in court.

Prisca Muza (23), from Mucheke ‘A’ suburb, had appeared in court yesterday seeking a second maintenance order of $150 from Urayai Mutevedzi, a businessman from Nyika growth point.

Before granting the order, magistrate Jabulani Mzinyathi scanned through the court records and established that Muza had obtained a $40 maintenance order for the same child from Charles Rungano of Masvingo hardly two weeks earlier.

The initial order (case number M05/13) was granted by magistrate Sibonginkosi Mkandla on January 7 this year.

“The application is dismissed because applicant clearly demonstrated that the child is someone else’s.

“This is clearly stated in case number M05/13,” Mzinyathi said in his ruling.

Muza told the court that Rungano had advised her to make a second claim, but the latter denied the allegation.

Mzinyathi blasted Muza for wasting the court’s time and also for attempting to double dip.
