Winnet Sibanda of Garikai compound pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting Prudence Tsvarayi after the latter refused to pay her uncle’s debt.

Public prosecutor David Never Shiku told the court the incident happened on December 6 last year after Sibanda stormed Tsvarayi’s home demanding payment for “services” rendered to her uncle whose name was not revealed in court.

The amount of money involved in the deal was also not disclosed.

When Tsvarayi denied liability for the debt, Sibanda turned violent and struck her with a stick, causing her to sustain back injuries.

The matter was later reported to police, leading to Sibanda’s arrest.

Binga magistrate Stephen Ndlovu slapped her with a 12-month jail term and later suspended six months of the sentence on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining six months were also suspended on condition she performs 210 hours of community service at Binga Police Station.
