South Africa fired blanks in the opening clash with debutants Cape Verde, ending 0-0 at Soccer City. Gordon Igesund’s side flew to Durban straight after the match and will play Angola on Wednesday. “We have to win against Angola now. That’s the most important thing now and we have to make the country proud,” Mphela told MTNFootball after the game.

Asked about his role as a second half substitute and his views on the game, Mphela said: “To come on as a substitute was a bit difficult for me, but I think our boys were a bit nervous tonight. We didn’t create enough chances to be honest. We defend as a team, we don’t concede as a team. We also score goals as a team and we all need to come to the party and score goals. We have to come to the party. That is how we will win the competition.”
