The “Man of the Cloth” from Mkhosana suburb in the resort town was convicted after pleading guilty to committing the offence when he appeared before Hwange regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga. No part of the sentence was suspended.

The prosecutor Bhekimpilo Tshabalala told the court that sometime last year the girl left Bulawayo for Victoria Falls to stay with her aunt, who is the pastor’s wife.

However, in May the girl’s aunt left for South Africa leaving her and her children in her husband’s custody.

On June 1, while at home the pastor called the niece into his bedroom.

He then grabbed her and threatened to assault her before raping the minor once.

After finishing abusing her, he gave her $1 and advised her not to tell anyone about the rape.

From that day he started raping the girl at will until December when the she left for Bulawayo where her parents stay.

On December 31 her mother bumped into her blood stained pair of panties and enquired from her what was happening.

She revealed the rape and a police report was made, leading to the pastor’s arrest.
