The girl, Sherry Mangwanda, was reportedly found hanging from a tree at Tonton Farm, Darwendale, on Saturday.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident and said no foul play was suspected.

Police said a day prior to the fateful morning, the now deceased was left at home and asked to babysit a minor child while her grandmother Lilia Taziva (49) went on errands at nearby villages.

Upon her return the following morning, the grandmother reportedly confronted the girl and accused her of neglecting the child and this degenerated into a heated exchange of harsh words.

“The girl got angry and went to a nearby paddock where she used a rope to hang herself from a tree branch,” Mabgweazara said, adding the lifeless body was discovered by a passerby at around 4pm the same day.

The matter was reported to Darwendale police.
