Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the robbery that occurred last Friday.

Mabgweazara said on January 11 this year at around 3pm, Fananidzo Masukuma (41), employed as a taxi driver, was approached by two unknown men who said they could pay him $95 so he could transport them to Karoi.

The driver accepted the offer and the trio embarked on the journey.

“Upon reaching Mhondoro Game Park turnoff along the Harare-Chirundu highway, complainant was ordered to divert into the gravel road that leads to the game park, where they allegedly wanted to pick up their colleague.

“After driving for a few metres, the men ordered the driver to stop the car, pushed him out before one of them jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off towards the main road, leaving the driver stranded in the bush,” said Mabgweazara, adding the driver also lost a Nokia cellphone and a wallet containing $95.

The matter was reported at Murereka Police Station. Mabgweazara appealed to the public who might have information leading to the arrest of the culprits and recovery of the vehicle to approach their nearest police station.
