The legendary former bodybuilder and ex-Mr Zimbabwe, who was 58, died at Parirenyatwa Hospital after suffering a stroke. Takundwa was one of the most decorated Zimbabwean bodybuilders of all time having won numerous accolades such as the Mr Rhodesia, Mr Zimbabwe and Mr Iron Man titles in his illustrious career spanning almost 40 years.

He also set the record for scooping the most titles, winning the Mr Ironman Championship a record seven consecutive times and the Mr Rhodesia and Mr Zimbabwe titles another record five times.

He also took part in international events like the 1980 Mr Universe Bodybuilding Championships held in South Africa and the 1982 World Championships in Egypt.

At the time of his death, Takundwa was president of the Weightlifting Federation and is credited for nurturing some of Zimbabwe’s great athletes like Innocent Choga and Elvis Chibhamu.

Takundwa is survived by his wife and two children.
