Senior Assistant Registrar for the Centre for Continuing Education at Lupane University Edolth Nkala said the programme will start next month.
“We are now going to be offering a Sports Management course in February. The programme will be offered at certificate level. Our target group is people who are running sport because they need to have the knowledge on how to do so,” he said.
The certificate has five modules namely Theory, Sports Ethics, Sport Laws, Management and function in Sport and Event Management while the students will also do case studies.
He said if those who run sport can get qualification this can assist in improving the running of sports clubs in the country.
“We have seen that most people who run sport do not have any qualifications. If they have the qualifications the clubs can be professionally run. The participants will attend a block release then the tutors will go and monitor the students to see if they are implementing what they have been taught,” he said.
“Kennedy Ndebele (Premier Soccer League chief executive) is going to be one of those who will be facilitating. We are targeting at least 20 students. We encourage female candidates to participate.”
