The schools have this year been divided into five districts instead of the usual zones, with each district set to hold its own inter-schools competition to select district teams that will participate in the provincial championships.

The five districts are Mzilikazi, Imbizo, Reigate, Khami and Bulawayo Central.

Bulawayo convener Gift Chiguvare, who is also the sport director at Ihlathi, confirmed dates of the provincial competition.

“Ihlathi and Nust grounds will be hosting the provincial games on February 28 and March 1. On February 28, the districts will converge at Ihlathi in the morning for the cross-country race and then proceed to Nust on the same day for short distances as well as field events. On March 1 the districts will return to Nust to conclude the remaining short-distance races and field events,” Chiguvare said.

The events will be used to select a provincial team which will compete in the national championships to be held on a later date.

Ihlathi is part of 10 schools that make up the Mzilikazi district. The 10 schools in Mzilikazi include Nkulumane, Mandwandwe, Sizane, Lobengula, Msitheli, Mpopoma, Njube, Magwegwe and Sikhulile High School.

On January 31, Ihlathi will hold inter-house competition which they will use to select the school team that will represent them in the district competition. On February 7, Ihlathi will host the Mzilikazi district cross-country race while Nust will be the venue for the district track and field events.

Other districts will also hold their own district competitions on dates that will be agreed upon by the district conveners to prepare for the provincial games.
