A 25-YEAR-OLD woman who was allegedly raped by a renowned Kwekwe-based pastor of the Living Christ Ministries is battling for her life at Gweru General Hospital following an attempted suicide.

REPORT BY BLESSED MHLANGA

The Gweru woman, who was reportedly employed by Pastor Edwin Sibanda as a maid, was admitted to the hospital on December 18 last year after taking an overdose of tablets in an attempt to end her life due to the alleged numerous rapes she is said to have endured at the hands of Sibanda.

Sibanda has since been brought to court facing allegations of raping his maid several times from November last year until she left for Gweru the following month.

The State, led by Vimbai Chinoda, alleged that Sibanda would enter her bedroom which did not have a lock and forcibly had sex with her several times that she even lost count.

In one alleged indecent, the maid claimed she was dragged out of a room she was sharing with two other people and taken to the sitting room where the “man of the cloth” allegedly ripped off her panties before raping her.

According to court papers, the maid attempted to commit suicide due to depression suffered as a result of the series of sexual assaults she endured at the hands of Sibanda.

Sibanda, who was remanded to January 25 on $100 bail, is highly regarded in Redcliff.
