Chikuni yesterday confirmed that the Under-20 Young Warriors duo were with “Kugona Kunenge Kudada” and by today he would have the list of players he is interested in.

Chikuni is holding on for his new boss Tennant Chilumba who is awaiting the processing of his work permit.

“Yes, they are here. I am not holding trials, but there are players I have called in that I am assessing and the two boys are among them.  I watched them play last season and if you call me tomorrow (today), you will know the players we are set to sign,” Chikuni said.

The duo missed on a chance to play top-flight football when Methembe “Mayor” Ndlovu’s “Tshintsha Guluva” faltered on the last hurdle, losing 1-0 to lowly Rufaro Rovers last November to surrender the Premiership ticket to How Mine who beat Black Boots 1-0 by the same margin on the same day in the tightly contested Zifa Southern Region Division One league.

Kevin is a utility player who played as a centre-back with the Young Warriors and can also double up as an attacking midfielder, while his brother is a left-back.

Platinum, who ended last season on position seven after becoming runners-up in their maiden season in 2011, last week transfer-listed eight senior players and they are on a player-recruitment drive. Former captain Zephania Ngodzo, who still had a running contract with the platinum miners, was shown the exit and is likely to be on his way to Caps United or league debutants How Mine.

Also out is Benjamin Marere, who was last year dropped from Platinum’s Orange Caf Champions League only to be recalled mid-season, but his contract expired and is not being renewed. Veteran defender Norman Togara has also been axed together with Cabby Kamhapa, Thandazani Ndlovu, Hardlife Mavundi, Rowen Nenzou and goalkeeper Tsungi Mudzamiri.

The fate of goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube is also set to be decided tomorrow when the new executive, led by George Mawere, meet the technical team. Dube is said to have refused to work with a new goalkeepers’ coach, although it has been confirmed that Peter Nkomo will remain in that position.

The former Gunners goalkeeper is now claiming that “someone” wants him out of Platinum.

Meanwhile, newly-appointed head coach Chilumba is yet to start work at Platinum as he still awaits his work permit from the Immigration Department.

The Zambian national, who quit the Hwange hot seat last year after he was given a two-match ultimatum to concentrate on junior development, is in Zvishavane and yesterday confirmed that he had not commenced work at the platinum miners as he awaits his papers.

Chilumba took Hwange to position four in 2011 and took part in the Caf Confederation Cup, but Hwange were dispatched in the second round by Al Amal Atbara of Sudan.

The gaffer has retained Chikuni as assistant, while Nkomo has been retained as the goalkeepers’ coach.
