WESTERN Panthers lock horns with Old Miltonians (OMs) in the final of the Zimbo Under-20 Rugby Cup at Hartsfield Rugby Ground tomorrow.

Panthers were finalists in last year’s edition where they lost to Busters who have failed to successfully defend the title this year, crashing out of the competition after a 43-0 drubbing at the hands of a strong Panthers side.

Rugby enthusiasts in the city will be treated to three hours of entertaining sevens rugby before the kick-off of the final match.

The sevens tournament will have 10 teams participating that will be placed into two pools of five teams each with the top two teams playing each other as a build up to the final.

A legends’ side will feature in the sevens competition with the likes of Victor Olonga, Theo Weale and Sean Robinson. The trio will play in the Zimbabwe Legends that will take on South Africa’s Springboks Legends on March 9 to celebrate Hartsfield Rugby Ground’s 75 years of existence.

Panthers coach George “Rollo” Mukorera said his side will go all out for a win.

“This time we will be concentrating on our game plan and working on the attack which let us down in the last game. We could not finish well and our play in the front was not up to scratch. I am hoping the boys play as a unit all round this time,” said Mukorera.

OMs coach Theo Weale said his side will be seeking nothing short of victory to win the cup.

“We want to maintain our effective defensive pattern going into the game.

“As a team we believe that everyone can run with the ball, but the problem is in defending. I hope the boys will put up an excellent performance and play an offensive and more running type of play in our quest for the title,” Weale said.
