At a show that featured the likes of Sulumani Chimbetu, Blessing Shumba, Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave, Mahendere Brothers, Jeys Marabini and Tanga Wekwa Sando, the 19-year-old musician made her presence felt through a good performance.

The event was dubbed the “New Year Gig” at Geza Farm in Sanyati.

Speaking to NewsDay after her performance, Machakwa said she would ensure that the attention she is getting on stage would not sway her from her studies.

“We have some upcoming artistes who end up losing their focus if they get into music, but I am not going to do that. I will first finish my education then venture into music full time,” she said.

She will be going for her Upper Sixth form this year at Rimuka High 1 in Kadoma.

Machakwa surprised over a thousand merrymakers who thronged the venue with her polished act.

The young gospel artiste belted out songs from her album Mira Panzvimbo leaving fans in awe.

The six-track album has songs Mhanya Usaine, Ndinovimba Naye, Nhangemutange with songs Vavengi, Mira Panzvimbo and Nzira Dzemutendi.

“I feel very honoured by the way people accepted my album here. This is my second time performing at an event with a lot of people,” she said.

She is currently doing live shows during her holidays and she will be sharing the stage with another new gospel kid Matheus Mhere in Kadoma at Grand Hotel next week.

“We have been preparing for the show and a lot is expected on that day because Mhere is doing well with his new album,” said Machakwa.

She said she was grateful to her parents who were supporting her to achieve her goals in life.
