There have been reports of leakages along the pipeline that started pumping water to Bulawayo early this month. The reported leaks raised fears that this could impact negatively on the supply of water to the dry city.

However, in an interview with NewsDay yesterday, Nkomo said: “I am out of the country right now, so I am not aware if there are any leaks, but the contractor is still on site to attend to such issues.

“I do not think the leaks would be of any impact because the engineers have dealt with some before and whatever leaks that arise would not be a problem to them. The leaks can be overcome,” said Sipepa Nkomo.

The project, viewed as the short term solution to the city’s perennial water woes, is expected to supply Bulawayo with 17 megalitres of water.
