ZANU PF politburo member Obert Mpofu yesterday castigated party members in Matabeleland North for selling maize seed and other inputs from President Robert Mugabe meant for villagers. Report by Nduduzo Tshuma Staff Reporter
Addressing party members in Hwange, Mpofu said while other provinces were distributing the inputs fairly, he received reports that in some areas in Matabeleland North, villagers were being made to pay $2 to get the inputs.
“In other cases some people are denied the inputs just because others want to settle old scores yet the President wanted people to be given inputs,” he said.
“If you see someone stealing something from the people then they are dangerous and do not deserve the positions they occupy. “If you are a leader, you should be the last one to receive anything, but give priority to the people.”
Mpofu, who is also Mines and Mineral Development minister, said he had taken it upon himself to ensure that Zanu PF wins in Matabeleland North.
“I will fight that the party wins all seats, especially in Hwange, because this is where I was born,” he said.
“The other parties are having problems in this province because of me. Some of their leaders have come to me and told me that.”
He said Mugabe was, “a very sensitive politician, a Pan-Africanist and accommodative to everyone, and not a tribalist.

“The MDC won seats in this province, but still the President gave us powerful ministries. The MDC on the other hand, sidelined MPs who had won (enough to deserve) ministerial posts until they complained because of tribalism in that party,” he said.
