The big goalkeeper is based in Swaziland where he is playing for Mbabane Swallows.

“Ajax have invited Mbabane Swallows goalkeeper Ephraim Mazarura for a trial this week as they look for cover after the announcement that they will not be renewing the contract of Sander Westerveld,” reported prominent South African football magazine KickOff on Friday.

Mazarura has been impressive for the Swaziland league champions since joining the club three seasons ago.

He was the third best goalkeeper in the league in terms of goals conceded last season after letting in 23 goals.

But Mazarura has also developed a knack for scoring goals for his club. He was Swallows’ third top goal scorer last season after netting six goals, all coming from set-pieces.

The 28-year-goalkeeper was called for the Warriors for the failed Africa Cup of Nations campaign late last year although he failed to make it into the final squad.

Mazarura joins another Zimbabwean player Ronald Chitiyo who is also trying his luck at Ajax Cape Town.

The Castle Lager Soccer Star of the Year second runner up has resurfaced at Ajax after failing trials at another Absa Premiership Orlando Pirates earlier this week.

Chitiyo, alongside Gunners defender Byron Madzokere had been training with the Absa League champions but failed to impress the technical team led by Roger De Sa.
