Eight teams have already confirmed their participation in the tournament and league this year in the men’s category. Star-studded Mercenaries won the 2012 league title.

Other teams already thrown into the hat are Mutare Polytechnic, Knights, Hustlers, Mutare Polytechnic, Chipinge Bucks, Florida and Africa University.

And Mercenaries, who have in the past few years competed with the county’s top side’s, will start as the outright favourites to win the tournament.

In the women’s category, five outfits — Sharks, Africa University, Mutare Girls High, Mutare Polytechnic and Florida Assassins — will take part.

In an interview yesterday with NewsDay Sport in Mutare, Manicaland Basketball Association president Innocent Sithole said the tournament will help shape the teams ahead of the coming league season.
