Jacob Tomu (23) is alleged to have stabbed Innocent Chidimu (32) on October 31, 2011 with a knife in his left arm after an argument arose over $2 which was outstanding change.

It is the State’s case that while the two were having drinks at Mugwagwa bottle store at around 9:30pm, Tomu gave the now deceased $20 and asked him to go to Mazhata tuckshop and buy three pints of beer.

Chidimu went and bought the beers, but was given $15 instead of $17 as change and was advised to collect the change later. According to State papers served to defence counsel Caroline Mugabe, the State alleges that when Chidimu told Tomu about the issue, he was unhappy and insisted he wanted his change in full. The two, however, agreed to go and collect the change together.

It is while on the way that an argument allegedly arose and a fight ensued resulting in Tomu stabbing Chidimu with a knife.

A post-mortem which indicates that Chidimu’s death was caused by a stab wound and hemorrhagic shock will be produced in court as evidence. The State will call seven witnesses, including a doctor who conducted the postmortem, to testify against Tomu.
