WARRIORS right wing-back Noel Kaseke has joined Edward Sadomba in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after signing for Pro League side Al-Shaab yesterday.

Report by Henry Mhara

The deal was confirmed by The National newspaper yesterday.

Kaseke is one of two players that the relegation-threatened side signed yesterday to bolster their fight for survival in the second half of the league which will restart on Saturday.

The other player is Portuguese attacking midfielder Filipe Teixeira.

The 32-year-old right-back said: “I am really happy to be here in the UAE now. The club president and the fans have given us a great welcome and now it is up to us to repay the club for their hospitality.”

Kaseke spent five seasons at Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia where he won five titles and played in the Uefa Europa League and the Champions League.

Last summer, he moved to another Cypriot club, Alki Larnaca, after the end of his contract with Omonia.

The dreadlocked defender is likely to be thrown into the deep end when Al-Shaab travel to face Dubai on Sunday.

Al-Shaab are currently 12th in the league table, level on seven points with Edward Sadomba’s Kalba and just three ahead of bottom-placed Dibba Al-Fujairah.

Club chairman Abdullah Sahoo is confident that his new signings will help his side survive relegation.

“We have added five players during this winter transfer window to help the team achieve the aspirations of our fans. The coaching staff and the board of directors felt we needed an infusion of fresh blood to meet the challenges of the important next phase of the league. We are seeking to maintain our presence in the Pro League and this will come only through more work and diligence,” Sahoo said.

Moving to Europe, Warriors midfielder Bradley Pritchard was on the winning side again when his English championship side Charlton Athletic beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 as they continue to fight for Premier League promotion.

The 26-year-old — who has been linked with a move to the Barclays English Premier League — played the whole match and was involved in the second goal that was scored by Yann Kermorgant.

Charlton are currently on 12th position on the 24-team table.

In South Africa, Warriors and Orlando Pirates striker Takesure Chinyama is looking forward to an improved performance when the second half of the South African Absa Premiership season resumes early next month.

The league is on a break to make way for the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Chinyama had a slow start to life in South Africa since his move to the Soweto giants in June last year, playing in just seven matches out of 16.

The former Legia Warszawa and Dynamos striker has made three starts, four substitutions and contributed just two goals for Orlando Pirates so far.

Chinyama was last week included in Pirates’ 25-member squad for the Caf Champions League.

The big striker banged in a brace as Orlando Pirates beat First Division outfit Mpumalanga Black Aces 4-2 in a friendly match on Saturday.

Two days earlier, he had scored a wonder goal playing for the Pirates reserve team to beat their Bidvest Wits counterparts 3-0.

Chinyama was yesterday quoted in the South African media saying: “I try to improve with each game. I’m hoping by the time the season resumes I will be in good shape. I’m also looking forward to a good performance in the Champions League. I want to do well for Orlando Pirates.”

Bucs resume their League campaign with a clash against SuperSport United at Orlando Stadium on February 13.
