In an interview with NewsDay at the weekend, Machacha said roads in the area were in a bad state and needed urgent refurbishment.

Most of the roads, he said, had become impassable since the onset of the rainy season as they had become muddy and riddled with potholes.

He called on the responsible authorities, Nyaminyami Rural District Council and the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara), to prioritise upgrading the service roads by tarring them.

“This area has been neglected for long. The roads are in a state of neglect and it seems the council and Zinara have failed to prioritise their upgrade.

“The government should embark on a deliberate programme to bring infrastructural development to traditionally marginalised regions such as Kariba,” said Machacha, adding the $50 000 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) money was not adequate for infrastructural development.

Machacha urged stakeholders to put aside their political differences and develop Kariba which boasts abundant tourist attractions such as wildlife sanctuaries and the Kariba Dam.
