The play is produced by Victory Siyanqoba Arts group.

Victory Siyanqoba director and playwright Desire Moyo told NewsDay yesterday that the play is about one man’s search for justice after being a victim of Operation Murambatsvina in 2005 as well as xenophobic attacks in neighbouring South Africa in 2008.

“The protagonist, Mr Madlela, loses his property during Operation Murambatsvina and then loses more things in South Africa. He ends up in that country’s Lindela Detension Centre, a holding facility for illegal immigrants. He comes back to Zimbabwe with a 5kg bag of mealie-meal and 2kg of beans.

“When he arrives in Zimbabwe, he finds that his family is also deeply entrenched in poverty,” said Moyo.

He said the arts group does not seek to remind people about bad things that happened but wants politicians “to know that people are bitter as we go to the referendum and are waiting for justice to prevail”.

He said people want “a better Zimbabwe with justice for all”.

Justice has a cast of eight with Moyo himself featuring as Mr Madlela.

The arts group produced another hard-hitting play about a corrupt politician two years ago entitled Bread & Roses.

Justice comes as part of Amakhosi Cultural Centre’s “Plays on Sunday” programme.

“The main objective of Plays on Sunday is to revive the fortunes of the theatre industry in Bulawayo.

“We are providing an entry platform for young people to come together and create theatre. Young people in Bulawayo are given an opportunity to develop their creative ideas, expand their theatre knowledge base and understand the industry countrywide,” said Amakhosi director Cont Mhlanga.
