Gondo yesterday told NewsDay Sport that he was confident he would do well in the competition.

“I am flying out of the country for South Africa on Friday morning to take part in my first competition of the year. I will take part in the Telkom PGA Pro-Am. I have so many competitions coming up and I have been preparing for them. I have been doing a lot of working out in the gym. I know that it will be very tough because I will be playing the upcoming tournaments in different parts of South Africa.

“I have been practising on hitting the ball and putting. Putting is the key in the sport so I have been working on it very hard. I did not break during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays because I wanted to ensure that I am fully prepared,” he said.

Gondo said he was expecting to perform well in this year’s tournaments.

“I last played in South Africa in 2011 and I did very well, but I expect to do even better this time. I am looking forward to all the competitions,” he said.

He will feature in competitions like the Johannesburg Open at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club from February 7-10 before taking to the greens in the Africa Open Tournament in East London from February 14 to 17.

Gondo will return to the course for the Dimension Data Pro-Am in Fancourt, George South on February 21-24 and the Africa and the Tshwane Open in Els Club Copperleaf from February 28 to March 3.

Last year, Gondo won the Joshua Mqabuko Invitational Golf Tournament at Bulawayo Country Club in November having won the Hwange Chaferfly Golf Tournament in Hwange in October.
