Georgia, who qualified for the World Cup in Russia after winning the European qualifying tournament in Portugal, will become the first European side to feature in the tournament. Georgia will join five other full international sides at the tournament, namely hosts Zimbabwe, Kenya, Hong Kong, Botswana and Zambia.

The international sides will be joined by South African provincial sides, Blue Bulls, Buffaloes, South Africa Sevens Academy, Mpumalanga Pumas and Zimbabwe’s second string outfit, the Goshawks.

Zimbabwe Rugby Sevens chairman Donald Mangenje said they were still waiting for one more team to confirm from either Namibia or Nigeria to bring the total of participating team to 12.

“I can confirm that the Georgia Sevens rugby team has confirmed their participation in the Spar International tournament and becomes the sixth full international Sevens team do so. We are also excited to welcome Hong Kong, Kenya, Botswana and Zambia.”
