HIGHLANDERS chairman Peter Dube is on Sunday expected to table his first report to the club members as he addresses his first annual general meeting (AGM) in charge, with one of the hot issues being the status of the technical department.
REPORT BY FORTUNE MBELE SPORTS REPORTER Some club members who spoke to NewsDay Sport yesterday said they expected to hear why the club has not yet appointed head coach Kelvin Kaindu’s assistants with the team having gone for over two weeks in preparation for the 2013 Castle Lager Premiership season.
A life member yesterday said the club executive appeared to be trivialising the issue of the coaches and expected some explanation to come from the chairman on the delay to appoint the coaches.
“For the first time in the history of Highlanders, the executive seems to be dithering on the issue of the technical department. Kaindu has gone for two months without assistants, but he has already started preparations for the new season with over 50 players.
“The public and the membership of the club would need to know and he (Dube) should tell us why he has not hired,” the member said.
The member said he found it absurd that the Zambian gaffer, who is the sitting coach, does not have assistants when he had probably made evaluations and recommendations on his previous lieutenants to the executive.
Assistant coach Bekithemba “Super” Ndlovu, goalkeepers’ coach Tembo Chuma and welfare manager Amin Soma-Phiri’s contracts expired on December 31 last year. But just before Kaindu came back from his native Zambia at the beginning of the year, Dube, who has previously said they are happy with the performance of the team last year, said the club was going to review the contracts of the coaches.
“The club is going to sit and look at those issues. We are going to review those contracts based on performance and the best interests of the club,” Dube told NewsDay Sport then.

Sources have said Ndlovu and Chuma are likely to be retained and will be unveiled at the AGM, while Soma-Phiri is facing the exit with several names touted to replace him, amongst them that of former player and coach Willard Mashinkila-Khumalo.
Former manager Emmet Ndlovu, who has the backing of the former players, has also been tipped to make a return to the Bosso technical department.
However, Kaindu has said he will not comment on the issue until the executive committee has made appointments.
