MOSES Chunga is being linked with a return to CAPS United as the 2005 champions prepare for the forthcoming 2013 Premier Soccer League season.

REPORT BY SPORTS CORRESPONDENT

Chunga, who won the championship with Gunners in 2009, was spotted at the Caps United morning training session yesterday.

Although he did not take part in training, his presence fuelled speculation he could be joining the Harare giants.

Chunga could, however, not be reached for comment by the time of going to print.

Caps United president Twine Phiri was also unavailable as he was said to be out of the country.

However, a source close to Caps United said Chunga could be coming in as either technical director or head coach.

“Yes, he was at training, but we are not sure of his immediate intentions,” the source said.

Caps are under the guidance of caretaker coach Mkhuphali Masuku after Taurai Mangwiro was handed a 10-year ban from all football activities for his alleged involvement in the Asiagate match-fixing scandal.

Mangwiro has, however, appealed against the ban. But United are preparing to rope in another coach in the event that Mangwiro’s appeal is thrown out.

Last week, former Dynamos coach Lloyd Mutasa, who is now Warriors assistant coach, was also linked to the job with the Harare giants. Should Chunga join Caps United, he will reunite with his former player Wellington Kamudyariwo, who was part of his youth brigade at Gunners before joining Caps United last week.

Hardlife Zvirekwi and Leonard Fiyado are already on the books of the Green Machine after signing from Gunners last term.

Caps United have signed exciting Gunners midfielder Wellington Kamudyariwa as the Harare giants continue to beef up their squad.

The 19-year-old Kamudyariwa, who was part of Chunga’s Gunners youth brigade which impressed with their offensive displays despite failing to retain Premiership status at the end of the last term, is also said to have attracted interest from some South African clubs.

The player’s manager Godfrey Mathanda said Kamudyariwa has been offered a three-year contract.

He said: “The deal is almost done. We are happy with it. He is already training with Caps United. It’s a good deal for him. He is a very good player who deserves to play for a big club like Caps United,” said Mathanda.

Kamudyariwa is set to reunite with his former teammates Zvirekwi and Fiyado.

Another player from Gunners, Moses Muchenje, is also reported to have expressed interest in joining Caps United, but appears to be frustrated by the club’s failure to make a concrete offer to sign him.

“Muchenje has not signed for any team so far. We are still talking to some clubs which have shown interest. He could also be going for trials in South Africa. We are still weighing up a number of options,” added Mathanda.

The 2005 champions have resolved to build their 2013 campaign on a junior policy and have not been going for experience.

However, the former Monomotapa duo of Tawanda Nyamandwe and Joseph Mutambiranwa are training with the club amid reports they have signed.

Caps United have also added to their squad former Eagles and Hippo Valley striker Dominic Chungwa, who finished as the leading goalscorer in the Eastern Region Division One League last season.

Chungwa also reunites with his former teammate Clive Kawinga, who played for Eagles before joining the Harare giants.

Wholesale changes are also expected at Caps following the departure of vice-president Farai Jere.

A new board of directors will be appointed in due course and current chief executive officer Maxwell Mironga will be replaced.

Jere quit the club last year after a loss to Dynamos in the Mbada Diamonds Cup in Bulawayo.
