Arnold Dzangare, director of the group, which currently has 65 choristers, said: “We are holding auditions as we seek 10 more members to join the group. We feel the current number is not enough and if we add 10 more I believe the group will be stronger.”

Dzangare, whose late father Israel founded the group, said this was part of their preparations for this year’s Old Mutual Competitions as well as their first ever US trip.

“We are expected to participate in the United States and this development is part of our preparations. We are also still to participate in our annual Old Mutual Competitions in South Africa,” he said, adding that they were seeking funds for their trip.

Chitungwiza Harmony Singers were formed in 1993 and since then the group has become the best a cappella ensemble in the country.

For several years, they have competed in the Old Mutual Regional Choir Championships in South Africa which draws the very best choirs from all over Southern Africa. They acquitted themselves well, scooping several awards along the way.

The choral outfit has vast repertoire, both sacred and secular, including classical operatic renditions, and are known for their professionalism and perfectionism.

Their musical versatility is positively mind-boggling in its reach and depth.

They have been invited to perform at various functions, including those held by some embassies in Harare.
