Willard Marandu was sentenced after his own plea of guilty to stock-theft when he appeared before Gokwe resident magistrate Shepard Mjanja.

However, the court suspended one year of the sentence on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard that on October 14 last year, the complainant Boman Maranda, who resides at ZCC Defe Shrine in Gokwe, found his ox missing from the pen when he was about to take his cattle for grazing. He then teamed up with a friend Rindayi Dube to investigate the theft.

They recovered the beast from Marandu’s home and reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest.
