THE Bob 89 Super Cup will be launched on February 6 as preparations for the annual football tournament gather momentum.

Traditional rivals Dynamos and Highlanders will participate in this year’s tourney, which is held to celebrate President Robert Mugabe’s birthday.

The tournament will be staged over two legs with the first match set for February 10 at Barbourfields Stadium before the reverse fixture at Rufaro two weeks later.

The launch was initially set for February 1, but it has been moved forward due to the unavailability of the guest of honour, Mines minister Obert Mpofu. Chairman of the tourney Stan Kasukuwere confirmed this yesterday.

“Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have decided to move the launch from the 1st to the 6th. The guest of honour has requested to be excused on the 1st and we have no option but to move the date forward. We will launch the tournament and a fundraising dinner on the same day,” said Kasukuwere.

Kasukuwere could not reveal the prize money for this year’s tournament, but said it would be the biggest tournament on the football calendar this season.
