CHINHOYI — Veteran journalist-cum-publisher Dennis Kagonye — who owns The Weekly Mirror, a provincial newspaper for Mashonaland West — has submitted his curriculum vitae for the purposes of contesting Chinhoyi’s Ward 8 councillorship on an MDC-T ticket.

“I am ecstatic to join the already long list of fellow journalists who have expressed their desire to contest the impending polls at different levels and representing different political parties,” said Kagonye, adding he aspired to represent the interests of Ward 8 residents whose concerns he said had not been well-articulated in council.

Kagonye was yesterday among the scores of aspiring MDC-T candidates who submitted their papers at the party’s provincial headquarters to contest the watershed parliamentary and local government elections likely to be held this year.

MDC-T Chinhoyi district secretary Tendai Musonza, who is also contesting in the primaries for the Chinhoyi Urban seat, confirmed yesterday was the closing date for receipt of credentials.

Kagonye will battle it out for councillorship against three other MDC-T candidates in Ward 8 if his papers are accepted.

Other journalists who have so far registered their interest to run in the polls on an MDC-T ticket include former ZBC disc jockeys Ezra Sibanda, Eric Knight, James Maridadi and Grace Kwinjeh.
