English Premier League outfit Newcastle have insisted Ameobi will not be allowed to feature at the Afcon for the Super Eagles.

Coach Stephen Keshi left the door open for Ameobi to join the squad in training camp in Portugal on Saturday, but he did not.

“The chapter (Ameobi) is closed and we’re looking ahead now. The player did not get in touch and it is sad,” said Eagles spokesman Ben Alaiya.

Injured Turkey-based striker Uche Kalu was expected to quit the Faro camp yesterday possibly to his club Rizespor.

Villarreal striker Ikechukwu Uche was expected to join the squad later yesterday after he played for his Spanish second division side against Barcelona B the previous day.

Alaiya disclosed that the final squad for the Afcon is most likely to be announced tomorrow evening after the team’s last training before a warm-up game against Cape Verde on Wednesday.
