The FA president Gabriel Ameyi announced on Monday that the team will be leaving for South Africa alongside its captain Adebayor, who was received by the country’s President Faure Gnassingbe on Monday.

“It is now very clear that we will be going to the Afcon with our captain Emmanuel Adebayor. We’ll be together there in South Africa,” Ameyi said in Lome.

“It’s very important to have him in the group because he’s our best player and captain. All our stars will be available for the tournament including Adebayor,” he added.

The 29-year-old Tottenham forward arrived in the country last weekend for a tete-a-tete with the President, which local observers believe was to persuade him to return to the outfit.

However, Adebayor did not make any comments while leaving the presidential quarters.

Togo will play their first game against Ivory Coast on January 22 in Rustenburg, where Group D, which includes Algeria and Tunisia, will also be playing.
