The minor was briefly detained by police over the matter, but later released into the custody of her 42-year-old uncle.
Manicaland deputy provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the alleged murder.
“Police are still investigating the matter, but they released the accused into the custody of her uncle because of her age,” said Chananda.
He said brief circumstances into the matter were that on the fateful day, the now deceased Evidence Mhlanga was left home while her mother went to fetch water.
The suspect then stormed their neighbour’s home and struck the toddler with a hoe before she burnt her waist with a burning log. After committing the crime, she dashed out of the kitchen hut, but the victim’s parents spotted her.
The victim’s father, Stephen Mhlanga, pursued her and on quizzing her, the suspect allegedly admitted committing the crime. She allegedly claimed the toddler had refused to share her food.
